Defiant MPS Indicator Range

The Indicators featured below all serve the same purpose- to keep the line in contact with the Alarm's Roller or Sensor through friction in order for the Alarm to actually work!  It's that simple, but all eight preform this simple task in slightly different ways or with extra enhancements built into the design

The whole range is completely modular as in -

~ Exactly the same Mounting Bracket/Stem fitting, that allows instant fitment/removal and 360 degree of instant alignment

~ Exactly the same Mag Head mounting utilising standard British 2BA threaded stud combined with an O Ring to allow the Mag Heads line slot alignment

All the range is sold as "Complete Ready to use Units" ( Bracket/ Indicator/Mag Head) When you buy a complete Indicator you choose what size/colour/type Mag Head you have fitted from the large range of standard 32mm long MKI, and 38mm long MKII Mag Heads. You also have the option to have the  "Specials" fitted for a small extra charge, as in Glow Mags, Tall Boys etc...

You can also purchase just the actual Indicator Chord/Arm, Mounting Bracket and Mag Heads separately

Here's a few  Tips to help you decide what Indicator will best suit your needs-

General Fishing: a Hawk, Merlin, Banshee, Scorpion with out Tension Rods fitted or any Warlock version will be fine.

Fishing in Strong Winds/Storms: All are fine except Hawk Hangers, as any Chain type Hangers is highly prone to "swinging about in the wind" creating those annoying false bleeps, which always seeds that doubt in your mind "was it the wind or was it a bite?"

Fishing at long Range/Snags:  a HG Banshee or a Scorpion with the Tension Rod inserted. A strong Tension Type Indicator like a HG Banshee (As powerful as it's viable to make a Indicator) acts like a "Mouse Trap" not giving a inch.  Something acting like a Spring increases in strength if bent further - adding Weights DOES  NOT! Gravity does not change. Hence the reason why Tension/Spring Loaded Indicators are so utterly efficient at enchancing hooking, not giving them a chance to eject the hook. just like a spring loaded Mouse Trap.

Slacklining:  Warlocks all day long, as all three versions can be set totally weightless at will, the other option is to fit MKII Mag Heads that can be set to hold position on the line without actually gripping the line, in others words in a safe way.

Notes:   I do not and never will make any form of Head/Bobbin out of solid Metal of any kind for good reason!   The very first Heads I designed/invented with internal Magnetic Line Clips had Solid Stainless Bodies. These were prototypes so nobody knew any different, but if you actually catch fish, you actually get takes/bits the underneath of your expensive Rods (New NG's in my case!) will soon start to show the damage of repeatedly being hit in the same area.  It's like your hitting your Rods with a small Toffee Hammer again and again!

# Note: to take the Photo's of the Merlin, Banshee, HG Banshee and Scorpion Indicators, to show in a "In-use Position", the Indicator is actually fixed to the back ground to combat the tension of the Indicators Chord

            The Merlin Indicator

The Merlin Indicators Stainless Steel Flexi Arm can only be described as having a movement like "fluid" it's that supple, only putting a slight bit of tension on the line (very similar to a standard Banshee) Also just like the Banshee the Merlin is totally windproof.

Merlin's have proved to be the first choice for those after a good "All-rounder" Indicator.

The Hawk Hanger

The Hawk Hanger is a basic chain type Hanger that I've been making for near on 20 years now and in that time not one has ever snapped, corroded or been returned with a fault. The reason why is simple, as with all MPS Indicators only the very best materials are ever used. The Stainless Steel Chain used in the Hawk's is the very best money can buy, it's of a welded Link construction, it's impossible to snap it even thou it's still has a narrow gauge

There is no set length - they can be made any length up to around 8" long (Raw Chain length) for no extra cost

           The Banshee Hanger

It got its name way back in autumn 2003 on the very first time on the bank, it was a very stormy night with the wind howling like a "Banshee", tree's making cracking noises as they swayed almost to breaking point in the powerful gale. It was instantly noted that my Alarms were not making any "False Bleeps" even thou they were swaying about and waves hitting the lines were they entered the water. The other four on the bank were using in vogue at the time Indicators with Sink Ball Chains or the equally useless Dacron chorded ones, and their Alarms were singing their little heads off in the severe weather conditions!

The design has hardly changed from that autumn night all those years ago, I'd cracked it first time - by using a woven 316 Stainless Steel chord which when formed into a "U" shape  becomes semi-ridged and in turn windproof, not just that the cord is unbreakable with a 560kg breaking strain!

HG Banshee Hanger

Based the original Banshee, this can only be described as a brutal no mercy form of Indicator!  If set just right with a Lead heavily enough to just hold bottom, when you get as bite everything happens in an instant - in most cases the lead comes flying back towards you, Rod jumps up into the air, an the clutch screams as all hell break loose, there's none of that finicky stuff - it's hooked instantly by it's own doing!

Like the standard Banshee they are also windproof and can be fitted with any Mag Head size or colour in the large range, ideally the strongest 20mm diameter versions as they need the stronger line clip mechanism to cope with the strong tension.

If I was only allowed to use one of my own Indicators,  the HG Banshee would be it - they are just so utterly efficient at putting fish on the bank.

The Scorpion Hanger

The Scorpion Hanger, was the very first Indicator I invented back in the late 1990's,was (and still is) so effective once Martin Locke at Solar Tackle saw and example at a meeting a deal was struck and Solar made a version (It was called The Adjustable Quiver Lock)

Still just as efficient at putting fish on the bank as way back then,
can be used as a basic Hanger or as a "Springer" when a solid Carbon tension rod is inserted into the hollow internal chamber of the Stainless Steel Flexi Chord.

~ Supplied with a medium strength solid Carbon tension Rod, reference 0.8mm is fitted as standard. But most customers like to make their own unique range of strengths to suit their own needs, Carbon Rod is readily available and also cheap - from eBay, Amazon etc.....

Rotary Warlock fitted with a 32 x 20mm Fluro green MKI Mag Head

                                 The Rotary Warlock

Of all the many Indicator design I've invented over the decades this is probably my favourite, a swinging arm type but with a unique shaped solid Stainless Steel arm, being shaped the arm does not just go "up and down"  it actually moves in a fixed  large arc of movement.  If set at it's lowest position (Set to be weightless for Slack-lining) from that point to the other end of the arc of movement is over 14", that's an awful lot of free movement to watch a bite develop compared to say a Hanger or basic swinger.  Supplied with slid on 5 gram weights that fit directly under the Mag Head for when that bit of extra tension is required on the line.  Can be fitted with any size/colour in the Mag Head range, ideally MKI versions as it's pointless fitting MKII's with twin line clip

"Sliding"  Warlock, fitted with a 32 x 20mm Fluro Red

                                    MKI Mag Head (Pink)

Sliding & Lockable Mag Head Mounting/Weight combination

                                   The "Sliding" Warlock

Something completely different! A cross bred conception of a Swinger Arm Indicator and a Monkey Climber!  The amount of setting options on one of these is almost endless, rather then having the mounting for the Mag Head in a fixed position, it's mounted onto what is in essence a "Sliding Weight"

But this Sliding weight can not only slide and be positioned anywhere along the 7" Solid Stainless Steel Arm, it can also be locked in any position via a small knurled Thumb Screw in the base of the fitting.

So you can slide the Mag Head along the Arm and add weight (Just like with a sliding weight) or move the the Mag Head towards the Alarm end, and by moving the "fulcrum point" you actually have the effect of adding a lot of extra weight onto the line. You can do this with the Mag Head/mounting locked in position or unlocked, it makes no difference in operation.

Another option is to position the Arm angled in the lower position of it's arc of movement and leave the Mag Head/mounting unlocked, so if you get a drop back it will drop down the Arm enhancing the bite, but don't expect the Mag Head/Mounting to go up the Arm with a forward take - it won't, the path of least resistance = the Arm swinging up on it's joint ( Kind of explains why Monkey Climbers were so critical to set right)

I've used them with the Mag Head/Mounting set unlocked set right at the top of the Arm with the Arm set at lowest point when Pike fishing - = Forward Take, the line pings out of the clip instantly so no resistance is felt.

= Drop-Back, the Mag Head/Mounting drop down the Arm with zero resistance.

~ I've just note the basic settings, there's such a plethora of  setting options possible it could fill pages!

Can be fitted with any size/colour in the Mag Head range, ideally MKI versions as it's pointless fitting MKII's with twin line clips.

Warlock Swinger, fitted with a 32 x 1/2" Yellow MKI Mag Head

                          The Warlock Swinger

Basic  Swinging arm type  Indicator option with a 7" solid Stainless Steel Arm, it goes up it goes down that's about it.  Supplied with slid on 5 gram weights that fit directly under the Mag Head for when that bit of extra tension is required on the line.  Can be fitted with any size/colour in the Mag Head range, ideally MKI versions as it's pointless fitting MKII's with twin line clips.

Provided  5 gram Slid on Weights can be fitted to the Rotary and                                           Swinger Warlock versions
